Our Services

Routine EEG

IPD performs routine EEGs to record your brain’s electrical activity which last approximately 20 minutes recording time using painless scall electrodes.

Best for:

Helping to diagnose neurological conditions such as epilepsy, seizures, or unexplained symptoms. Our consultant neurophysiologists analyse every recording to ensure accurate results.

Extended EEG

For extended EEG, our team monitors your brain signals for up to 4–6 hours.

Best for:

Capturing frequent abnormal events to investigate seizure conditions or epilepsy. Our. Our consultant neurophysiologists analyse every recording to ensure accurate results.

Ambulatory Overnight EEG

Overnight EEG monitoring in your home. This test can be set up in the comfort of your own home or in our clinic.

Best for:

To investigate the occurrence of any seizure activity to support a suspected diagnosis of epilepsy.

Sleep EEG

A sleep EEG records your brain waves during a longer period which includes a short sleep period. This study can be done in your home or at out clinic. Our specialists ensure the process is comfortable and results are interpreted by experienced Neurophysiology Consultants.

Best for:

Supporting the diagnosis of seizures or epilepsy, because brain activity may be enhanced during sleep.

Home Video Telemetry (HVT)

Our video telemetry service combines continuous EEG monitoring with video recording over 24 hours or longer.

Best for:

Capturing complex or rare symptoms or events, to characterise the type of behavioural events or even to capture harder-to-detect seizures that may only be detected with the EEG. This is done in a familiar, low-stress environment like your home.

Combined PSG-EEG Test

A comprehensive test combining polysomnography and EEG to monitor brain activity during wake and sleep.

Why have I been referred to neurophysiology?

EEG is a diagnostic tool used to look for evidence of activities related to seizures and epilepsy. It can be used for the evaluation of abnormal movements, changes in behaviour and unexplained developmental delays.

What tests might I have?

For most patients, a routine EEG lasting approximately 20 minutes is typically performed first. When this assessment is inconclusive, a prolonged EEG conducted as a day-case, overnight, or as a full 24-hour recording is advised.

Do the tests hurt?

EEG tests are not painful. YSmall disc electrodes are applied to several points of your scalp with a small bit of sticky cream which can feel cool during the set up. After the study, your hair will need to wash with shampoo.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Your hair should be washed the day before the study and no oils or hair products should be applied.

Any wigs or weaves will need to be removed to allow access to the scalp, and the hair should not be tied.

You can have your meals and medications as normal.

If a sleep EEG has been recommended, please avoid coffee or caffeinated drinks on the day.

How long do tests take?

Most tests last between 30–90 minutes, depending on the type of EEG test requested by the referring doctor.

When will I get my results?

Your results may take up to a week to be sent back to your referring consultant. Once the test is completed, a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist will review and report your results. You should seek to book a follow-up appointment with your doctor to review the results.
